Description
The GLOCK 34 Gen 5 MOS configuration has a machined slide that accepts a reflex red dot scope. If you own a MOS and decide you don’t want optics, you don’t have to use optics – just leave the cover plate on and use with the standard iron sights.
The original G34 was introduced in 1998. The Glock 34 Gen 5 MOS is a competition-ready 9mm pistol. Designed to be the same overall length as the Government Model 1911 pistol. The main differences between the full-size Model G17 and the long slide Model G34 include a 5.32″ barrel for the 34 (0.82″ longer than the 17). This results in a longer slide.
G34 has no More Slide Cut-Out Debris Trap
The Glock 34 Gen 4 had a slide cut-out on top of the barrel toward the front site. This was to reduce the overall weight of the slide. If you ever owned a 34 Gen4 you will be aware that this cutout was a potential debris trap. The Gen 5 no longer has this cutout. To maintain the balance the reduced weight is achieved by thinning out the slide. Like all Gen 5’s the width is now 34mm and the weight is 8 grams heavier than Gen 4.
New Slide Steel Alloy
Thinning out the slide obviously has the potential to weaken the component. Not so with the Gen 5 MOS. Glock metallurgists have developed a new steel alloy for the Glock 34 MOS Gen 5. This new slides steel alloy is is stronger than the previous generation even after taking a slight “haircut”.
The Glock 34 MOS Gen 5 has extended magazine and slide releases and a reduced trigger pull. Naturally the longer slide results in a longer sight radius. Furthermore resulting in a slightly better balance of the pistol. This results in quicker recovery between shots. These are also attributes that are desirable for tactical use as well as competition. Glock refers to this model as the “Tactical/ Practical.”
