Description

The Glock G 47 MOS SILC is in SA and in stock. Initially I was a tad sceptical about the introduction of what on the surface looks like a G17. Now after shooting one for the last few months I am putting one on my staff account.

The base Glock 47 MOS was developed for the United States Customs and Border Patrol. The brief was they wanted a full size and a compact handgun. These guys have  thousands of G19s and G17s in service. Now they only need to maintain one common recoil spring and other internal parts such as strikers, striker springs, extractors, etc. are all common as well. The Glock G 47 Threaded Barrel makes this platform even more versatile.

Glock G47 MOS SILC Taking the Crossover Project Further

The G47 is taking the G19X/G45 crossover concept further The G47 Thread Barrel Option  uses the G45 frame and combines this with a barrel that is 124 mm long. It keeps the shorter recoil spring from the G19/G45.

To accommodate the short recoil spring, the G47’s slide has an extended recoil spring tunnel designed specifically to work with the shorter recoil spring. The principle is the same as Glock does with the G17L and G34.

G 47 MOS barrel interchangeability

Like it’s other crossover siblings the G19X and G45, the G47 MOS uses the G19 locking block. As a result the shorter G19(gen5)/19X/45 slide and barrel is interchangeable with G47 MOS frame – no problem. Furthermore the G47 slide and barrel can be used on a Gen5 G19 frame.

Should we call the G47 a G47 MOS

This is a pet peeve of mine. As The G47 only comes out in a MOS version  is it not redundant to call it a G47MOS? You decide!

Glock G47 MOS SILC and MOS adaptor plates

A heads up here that the G47 ships without a complete set of adaptor plates. This is a baffling to me.  It ships with the #2 plate {Trijicon, Holosun (except 509), Ameriglo} among other sights. These adaptor sets are available to purchase  in complete sets of 4 OR individually from The Glock Shop. A further note on this is that adaptor plate sets come in both nDLC and Tenifer finish to suit Gen 5 Glocks and the Tenifer the Gen3/4 Glocks

  • #01 Docter, Meoptra, Insight, Vortex, Burris
  • #02 Trijicon, Holosun (except 509), Ameriglo
  • #03 C-More
  • #04 Leupold, Eotech

G 17 MOS vs G47 what lies ahead?

It would seem logical to assume that, at some point in the near future, Glock will discontinue the Gen5 G17 altogether and replace it with the G47 design. Glock haven’t made an announcement on this however.

Glocks use of interchangeable parts within its handgun designs is a beneficial feature. Not just for the logistics of the manufacturing process, but also for the consumer. For these reasons, among others, the Glock 47 MOS would be a good choice for organisations with large inventories of firearms.
