Description
Glock 17 Gen 4 MOS – it’s over 35 years old now and the legendary Glock 17 (so named because it was the 17th patent procured by the company) attained iconic status a while ago. Since its introduction, the company has introduced a bevy of other models. Various frame sizes and a mass of calibers but the G17 chambered for 9 x 19mm Parabellum, remains the Glock that comes to mind when mentioning the name. The G17 in MOS configuaration (modular optical system) allows mounting of popular optical sights without costly custom machining of the pistols slide. Optical sights are popular in competitive shooting and are becoming increasingly popular for use on personal defence weapons due to fast target acquisition and faster follower up shots and transition between targets.
The GLOCK 17 Gen 4 MOS Configuration is identical to the G17 Gen 4 except for the machined slide that accepts an optical sight. MOS stands for Modular Optic System. READ MORE HERE . Essentially the top of the slide is machined about 48mm long in the Glock factory. Subsequently this slot then has a cover plate fitted into it. The result is that the frame looks indistinguishable from a standard G17 Gen 4 at first glance.
As a consequence the site installation is simple. Firstly you unscrew and remove the cover plate, position the new plate ( four plates are supplied to fit the most common optics) designed for use with your optic and screw it in position. Thereafter attach your optic to the plate with screws, as per you sight manufacturers instructions. Finally you’re good to go. If you own a MOS and decide you don’t want optics, you don’t have to use optics – just put on the cover plate and use with the standard iron sights.
