GLOCK P 80

In the early 1980s, the Austrian Ministry of Defense proceeded with the modernization of the Austrian Armed Forces. As a result of an invitation to tender a new service pistol, called “Pistole 80” or “P80” was conceptualised.  Requirements were: Reduced weight, high level of reliability and safe and simple operation. As a consequence of these requirements, Mr Glock put pen to paper.

Already a supplier of knives to the Austrian Military, Gaston Glock recognized this great opportunity.Glock proceeded to design an innovative pistol that could be efficiently manufactured. Notwithstanding simple and safe to handle. He analyzed the pistols on the market. Carefully studied their patents.

As a result, he left traditional ways of design and manufacturing behind.  His motto was: “On the way to perfection every challenge has to be accepted”.

Gaston Glock didn’t want to improve on the old standards, instead, he wanted to create something truly innovative.

Initial Production Deadlines

In order to meet the Austrian Ministry of Defense’s tight deadline, design coordination and immediate implementation in the toolmaking shop were essential. As a result of support from his team, Gaston Glock worked on the pistol’s development day and night. Consequently in record time designed a technically revolutionary pistol system. 40th Anniversary of the P80’s Birth

40 Years …..this month 40 years ago, the Austrian Armed Forces ordered GLOCK produced their new service pistol, the GLOCK P80, currently known worldwide as GLOCK 17.  To celebrate this anniversary The Glock Shop is now offering Glock P80’s historical reproduction in a very limited quantity.  It is a terrific opportunity to grab hold of a piece of history. It’s a Glock made in Austria using the company’s in-house components. You can store this pistol safely away and take it out to admire once in a while knowing that you are sitting on an appreciating asset.
